Marissa Nadler performed a wide variety of tunes tonight at Schubas. Accompanied by Carter Tanton, of the band Tulsa, on a few tunes, I was surprised that they only played two tunes off the new release, Little Hells, out via Kemado. I guess it doesn't too matter because all of her tunes are hauntingly beautiful. Marissa, apologetic for the lack of stage banter, had confessed early on that she's terribly shy. Again, not a big deal to me, I was there for her lovely music. Wrapping up her tour with Alela Diane tomorrow at 7th Street Entry, in Minneapolis, Nadler will play a few more shows before beginning work on a new record.

Alela Diane, along with bass player, Tom Bevitori, performed a solid set of tunes tonight at Schubas. Mostly sticking with the greats off her newest full-length, To Be Still, out via Rough Trade, Diane's voice seemed to be spot on. The slightly tired two also confessed their recent love for "mainstream hits," which they listened to, on their nine hour drive to Chicago. Though some older and newer tunes were played as well, they also decided to cover a tune by Dylan LeBlanc, a young man they recently met at a show in Baton Rogue.
